Media Rehab is a method designed to help you take apart and rebuild your media diet for greater emotional wellbeing.
It helps you build deeper awareness of the impact of your consumption and provides you with the tools to design a diet that serves you better (incl. what, how often, and when to consume).
The method takes 21 days to work through, and is made up of three protocols: Feelings, Soups, and Rhythms. Each protocol takes five days to complete.
Throughout the experiment, protocols and reflections will be sent to you as a newsletter. Weekly drop-in sessions and community features will also be part of the experience.
The media we consume significantly impacts our emotional wellbeing, worldview, and decision-making.
Today's media ecosystem — with its broken business models, misaligned incentives, and predatory delivery systems — is overwhelmingly designed to capture and monetise our attention rather than serve our needs. An unbalanced media diet can give rise to stress, isolation, and exhaustion while hogging bandwidth from deeper thinking, personal enrichment, and meaningful connections.
Media Rehab helps you regain control of what you consume, when, and how — allowing you to create a media diet that serves rather than exploits your mind.
Registration data will only be used to recruit cohorts. You will also be given the option to stay connected to receive news about future developments.
Registrants will receive three emails — a welcome email, an invitation to complete a survey about their current media habits, and an invitation to join the first cohort or the option to stay connected to receive news (e.g. opportunities to join a future cohort or other future developments).
We won't sell your data or send additional emails beyond these three without your explicit consent, and will delete your data if you wish for us to do so (send requests to hello@mediarehab.xyz).
We're waiting to confirm dates for our summer cohort and will keep you posted on these if you sign up.
An email inbox and a notebook — virtual or analogue — to keep track of your progression, will be required.
No — consider it a free public service.
Technically speaking, this programme is still a prototype. Your participation will help improve the experience for others in the future.
Rest assured, we also have zero intention to monetise registration data, and all your activity data is private and owned by you.
Absolutely — in fact, we encourage it.
Media Rehab was conceived by Lucia Komljen, a technosocial researcher and strategist. After 20+ years in media and communications industries, she founded Have A Nice Future — an advisory practice focused on preferable futures with media technologies.
Lucia has spent the last decade studying people's relationship with media technologies. Part of her research has entailed testing aspects of what is now the Media Rehab Method.
